WHEREAS: The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing changes to pesticide regulations that could spell disaster for wildlife because of deadly chemical poisons, and, WHEREAS: The regulations would allow EPA to decide for itself, instead of consulting with the experts at the US Fish and Wildlife Service OR the National Marine Fisheries Service, whether new pesticides, and old pesticides being used in new ways, would pose threats to endangered wildlife species, and, WHEREAS: The pesticide industry has sought this change for many years. Their goal is to avoid protections that would safeguard fish and wildlife. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Minnesota Division of the Izaak Walton League of America in Annual Convention, April 17, 2004, in Duluth, Minnesota urges the Bush Administration and the Congress to insist that the EPA consults with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service before changing old or adopting new rules on pesticide manufacture or use that may affect wildlife.
